Mountain Retreat Reset

To be real, January has always been my least favorite month of the year. Here we sit in the dead of winter, freezing half to death, snowed in and struggling with that post-holiday slump. You know what I'm talking about. That pants-too-tight, too cold to do anything feeling and not to mention the 5 hours of sunlight we're allotted per day really sends the winter sads into full swing.

So, to find a way out of the January darkness and needing the momentum to take 2018 by the horns, I booked a trip to Colorado to spend time in Estes Park at the gorgeous White Eagle Ranch. One of my amazing Semester at Sea alumni members, Sara Leger, planned a Fearless and Fit retreat for dozens of women across the U.S.

I joined some of Colorado's leading holistic and spiritual healers, yoga teachers, and speakers and immersed myself into a mindset positioned to create change for 2018. This two-day women’s wellness retreat was dedicated to the fearless pursuit of self-love, empowerment, and intentional transformation of the mind, body, and soul.  This weekend was revitalizing, to say the least! It was just the recipe I needed to plunge full force into 2018.

I want this year to feel different. I spent the majority of 2017 allowing myself the time, energy and space I needed to feel all the feels, sort the good from the bad, and be 100% true to myself and what I needed. So, when January 2018 was on the horizon, I found myself looking at things very differently, very logical- which is a big departure from my usual emotional antenna leading the way.

I was sitting with a nudge that kept pinging me to pay closer attention to my intuition. Intuition is a very strong, very real thing. I had forgotten about that superpower and my weekend in the mountains was a gentle reminder to pay attention to it! I spent so much of 2017 spreading myself a little too thin between work and side jobs and giving energy to people that probably didn't deserve my time. I had difficult choices to make in love, career, and self, options to weigh and blind faith staring me in the face.

Sometimes you have to be quiet to hear--seek solitude and peace. Allow yourself time to breathe, unfold, and soften back into your routine. Trust the process.. even though we all believe that we think we know what’s happening, we really don’t know. We convince ourselves that our past creates our present, but it’s not true. We are continually creating our experience. Sometimes all we can do is trust that things will work out for the best, which—in hindsight—they always do. Trust your intuition. Lastly, "just do it." And by that I mean listen to those hunches and impulses and act on them. Feel like saying hello to a stranger? Do it. Feel like sending a card or friendly note? Yep. Go for it. Impulses come from the brain, but intuition comes from the soul. If you are truly following your nudge, the results will always please you and others.

I took away a sense of calm and peace from Colorado with me and believe that 2018 will be a defining year for me in all areas of my life. Here are my big takeaways leading the way for 2018 and beyond;

  • It is not my job to be everything to everyone.
  • Cling to what is good.
  • You attract what you are ready for.
  • We learn the way on the way.
  • Do not fight for something that isn't yours to fight for.
  • When people treat you like they don't care, believe them, hit 'em with a "cool" and move on.
  • When its real, you cannot walk away.
  • Intuition is my favorite superpower.
  • Kindness is better. Always.

XOXO,

B
